Fire alarms save lives, FACT!
Installing ten year, photoelectric smoke alarms is our main priority right now. By the time the emergency services arrive it’s often too late, so let’s prevent the worst. We have lobbied and according to the then housing minister, Nick Smith, FireBuddy played a part in developing new laws requiring rental properties be fitted with them. This is a small step in the right direction.
Our big, fat hairy goal is to see every household in New Zealand protected.
These alarms retail between $30-$50, the average property needs up to five alarms. The fire service does not have the resources to fund such a project. We asked that the government subsidise the cost. They would rather spend the money on enforcement.
FireBuddy is looking to nurture partnerships with corporates. We’re encouraging them to participate in our ‘Adopt a Neighbourhood’ campaign. We’re actively seeking support from the corporate world by way of subsidies, providing alarms, detectors and literature for delivery and installation.
This has worked in the US and here is an unprecedented opportunity for partners to interact with homeowners on a national scale and actively help communities through FireBuddy.
We’ve developing a crowdsourced data collection application using world-leading software and mapping data. The collector tracks critical information about the home that is input by the homeowner.
Never before have we been able to immediately track progress and successes of our program. We continue to identify layers and options to improve the program functionality. We can now get the app on phones, and are able to immediately track smoke alarm installations 24 hours a day, year round.
